Good point on lowest common denomitor.  It will depend on the target of the script.  If it is part of a shipping product you better stick with Bourne, since it is pretty much universal.  If it is only for use on the local machine, i.e. sysadmin scripts you write to help your daily life, then use what ever floats your boat.

I just write bash for my own local use.
