On my Ubuntu Breezy box in a new X session, with Synaptic running, I
find:
matt at blacksmith:$ sudo find / -name 'lock' -print
/var/lib/apt/lists/lock
/var/lib/dpkg/lock
/var/lib/aptitude/lock
/var/cache/apt/archives/lock
/var/lock
/proc/sys/dev/cdrom/lock
/root/.synaptic/lock
/tmp/gconfd-matt/lock
...but we expect every distro to put the lock files in a different
place, eh? :)
