[olug] LILO is broken? How to make vga=extended work

You can run "linux vga=ask" from the lilo prompt to get into a scan and test utility.  Each mode will have numeric
identifier.  I use vga=5, which I believe is 80x43, or something close to that.  Anyway, once you find the mode that you
like, add it to lilo the same way you did the extended entry.  I'm not familiar with the one you used, it may be some
sort of automatic selection and dosen't like your video card...
I don't think you can change it once the kernel is loaded.

I haven't bothered with it for a long time now.  I use a serial terminal for emergency access.
To get lilo onto a serial terminal, add this to your lilo:
serial=0,9600N8  ( 0 is your serial port)
Then add this to inittab:
6:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty -L 38400 ttyS0 vt100    (set the speed, terminal type and serial to your needs)
And add this to rc.local:
stty cols 94 rows 120    (Set the rows and cols for your terminal program)
