[olug] TTY problem

OK when you turn the box on do you get the xsconsole on the monitor hooked
to the box?
If not when you boot the system you need to hit tab or something and type
"menu" to edit the "console=" part of the kernel command line.
They are meant to be appliance like.... you can push the host console out
via serial etc.

You're not supposed to use the screen and keyboard hooked to the host to
work with guests. I run xenserver boxes headless, they don't even need a
video card.
I am not saying that you can't do this with some hackery but it isn't how it
is designed.

Use xencenter/putty/nomachine/rdp etc from a remote desktop to access the
guests.

Keep in mind xenserver is meant for the technically challenged windows
admins as a means to compete with vmware.

If you don't use a windows box to use xencenter, going from xen to xenserver
probably wasn't the smoothest move, if you are a command line wizard.
All your powers r belong to Merlin.

sshd is running on the guest and I can ssh into the guest. I do not get a
login prompt on the virtual console and cannot get to the other TTY's on the
box FROM the console. Being a virtual box, I cannot just hookup a keyboard,
monitor, and mouse to it to work on the true screen. The odd part of this
is, I CAN use ssh to get into the box and work on it. Good for me BUT not
for the person who may come up from behind me to support this in the future.
I will do some looking to see if there is something else in the kernel
command line like you mentioned...I am sshing from my desktop, not the host.

Thanx!

Like Daniel said check console= in the kernel command line.... this is the
first thing I would look at.
But I thought that was meant for the host.

I don't understand this "I can SSH into the box and work BUT not from the
command line"

I have never tried to ssh into a guest from the host.
....... oh wait like from xencenter's a vnc console?

Check the xenserver firewall. SSH into the ip assigned to the guest.

Just top of my head bable.......

Got an issue that has us stumped.

Converted a XEN VM to an XEN Server VM. Now, my TTY does not work. I can
SSH into the box and work BUT not from the command line. I get no login
prompt. I look in the /var/log/messages and see "agetty[pid]: /dev/xvc0: No
such file or directory".

Any ideas??
