I went to upgrade my kernel from 2.2.15 to 2.4.0 and everything went
fine until I ran make modules_install and I got an error stating to
change /etc/conf.modules to /etc/modules.conf,so I did.That helped but
not completely,Then updating to modutil-2.4.0-1 solved the problem
altogether, but when I boot up it says loading new.....I labeled it new
temporarily until I get it working. But when it gets to the login
screen it states it's the original 2.2.15mdk kernel, this can't be right
what am I doing wrong?
Also I lost my sound now, here's a list of the modules that are
loaded....
Module Size Used by
3c509 6000 1 (autoclean)
nls_iso8859-1 2320 1 (autoclean)
nls_cp437 3824 1 (autoclean)
vfat 11200 1 (autoclean)
fat 32864 1 (autoclean) [vfat]
opl3 14160 0 (unused)
sound 64416 0 [opl3]
soundlow 464 0 [sound]
soundcore 3792 3 [sound]
Can someone tell me if I might be missing a module? These were in my
/var/log/messages
but couldn't be found using locate.......

Might I have left an important part out of sound while compiling the
kernel?
I also can't mount my zip drive or cd-rom now, here are their
respective boot up messages.........
zip drive (dev/hdc4)
Jan 14 18:26:08 omhan1 rc.sysinit: Checking filesystems succeeded

Jan 14 18:28:05 omhan1 kernel: FAT bread failed
when I try to mount the zip drive from the command line the message
reads like the
boot up messsage for the zip drive but when I try to mount the cd-rom
from the command like I get this......
/dev/cdrom: Input/output error
mount: you must specify the filesystem type
I've tried mount -t ext2 /mnt/cdrom and if that's the right command I
still get the same message.Does anyone know what may be wrong here?

                    Thank you,Gary Martin
