[olug] Today's recommendations for a beginner

A friend of mine at work is peripherally involved in our it work, but at a
security and essentially non-technical role. They are interested in
learning more about Linux, and possibly dipping their toes into
programming. They asked me for suggestions on learning material I would
suggest.

I'll suggest joining OLUG so they can ask questions in a friendly
environment, but I think they would be more comfortable with books and
videos to get started.

What are the current books and videos that you might have recommended to
friends and family over the past few months?  (And as we collect them we
could add or update a beginners page on the OLUG website too.)
