1 computer just died, tried to bring up another to replace (all old hardware) and can't boot a recent install DVD or CD-ROM. Won't boot from USB either. Even installed Slackware 14.0, used THAT to burn a Slackware 14.2 DVD as well as mini-install CD-ROM in the writer in the machine, still won't boot. Figured the drive was flakey, but tried booting the mini-install disc in another computer, booted just fine.
So this computer will boot a Slackware 14.0 install disc, but not a 14.2 DVD or mini-install CD-ROM, nor boot from USB, but same media works in other computers. Gremlins abound...
Was wondering, with User Mode Linux or Xen, would it be possible to install a current Slackware, then make that install the only thing on the drive? Or some other way to install Slackware (or some other sane server 32-bit Linux)? Don't want to continue using the machine in virt mode and never worked with the virtualizers...
Might try swapping DVD writers later tonight to see if it is a drive prob...
