It's definitely possible to keep them all on a single box with any
modern server (assuming it has multiple network interfaces). Your
mention of small had me thinking about something different than a
traditional server, though.
My thought was to get something like a MikroTik RouterBOARD router[1]
($50-$120, depending on model) to handle the network functionality,
and something like an Intel Next Unit of Computing[2] (~$250 or so to
build out) to handle the server functionality.
Both of them:
- are small
- reasonably priced
- draw fairly little power
- have almost no moving parts
- use solid-state/flash storage
- are capable of handling the load described
If I didn't do something like that, I'd probably get a single server
box, but still split it logically with 2 (or more) VMs.
