I went from 10.04 to 12.04 on my netbook and had it lockup half way
through. Had to do a full restore. It did go through the second time with
no issue. Getting Gnome up and going was pretty easy. Just did a sudo
apt-get install gnome-shell and selected it at login. I am still learning
the to use Linux regularly. I have it on the netbook to play with.
Did the upgrade on a desktop with no problems first try. Did the
gnome-shell install and then tried to remove Unity. *Total* failure. I
didn't think it was worth it to try and remove a second time because it
started giving me a headache, so I just left it on there once I restored
the 10.04 and upgraded again.
