Fedora 15, partition formatted as ext3, no lvm or software raid, just plain old school partitions.
Weird things happening, so decided to umount and do fsck. After umount /dev/sdb1 I ran fsck /dev/sdb1 and it came back that the partition was mounted. Check with df, mount and ls on the mount directory, all show as unmounted. Ran sync about 5 times, tried again, same thing. Ended up commenting out the necessary line in /etc/fstab and rebooting so the partition would not get mounted, ran fsck and all is good.
Question is, why after umount was the partition still considered mounted by fsck, when all other indications showed it wasn't?
