Why not see how hard it would be to remove the HD yourself? A guy in Australia has put most of the Apple service manuals online here:

Pro Tip: Use an ice cube tray to help keep track of all the screws as you take the iBook apart. I have taken apart my share of iBooks in the past. It's not too hard, just takes a while (so many screws). Take care!
