Both of my Brother printers (the HL-2700CN color laser, and the
MFC-295CN inkjet fax/scanner/printer) are doing great.
I finally replaced the original ink cartridges in the 295, bought a
set of 12 cartridges (three of each color) from an Amazon re-seller
for about $20 total. I was suspect of the quality based on the price,
but they have good color and that was 6+ months ago and I'm still on
the first set. It's now a fraction of the TCO when it comes to my
past HP InkJet printers.
Both printers are easy to setup as network printers under Ubuntu. The
network scanner and print-to-FAX with the 295 hasn't been
re-configured since I did a full re-install of 11.10. From memory, I
believe both the scanning and print-to-FAX worked, but I'll have to
re-configure them to confirm.
(For those interested, the print-to-FAX and network scanning under
Windows 7 works quite well. I don't do much of either of those, but I
have done network scanning and it's easy and quick.)
