the problem seems to be deeper than just finding money to invest in
infrastructure. the technology exists and the investment capital exists.
perhaps i'm mistaken, but expanding on my previous example, verizon boasted
3X gain in profits last quarter over the previous quarter, on top of it they
are attempting to cut pensions, benefits, and workers and have entered a
stalemate with CWA and IBEW. for what? greed? maybe, but that seems to
simple of an answer for me.

perhaps they are lying to the shareholders?

i'm not an economist, but the problem seems more complicated than just
blaming it on demand and a weak economy, as well as just blaming the
almighty corporation. things are never as simple as we would like to
believe.

whatever the case, it's definitely more complicated than a long line for
beer, as entertaining as aric's colorful analogies are.

it's an interesting discussion.
thanks to all for some alternate perspectives.
