If you can afford AT&T, there's also the option of Nokia N900 with Maemo. It's 
about as much open source as Android, but it uses normal X11, and rooting the 
system OS (that is, not the cellular modem) is encouraged. Maemo itself is 
discontinued, but Nokia is funding (but won't guarantee) a port of MeeGo, and 
you can run third-party ports of operating systems such as Android or Gentoo.

(It actually supports T-Mobile better than AT&T, but T-Mobile has virtually no 
service in Omaha)
