[olug] What is fuse and why is it borking my system?

Fuse is used to mount filesystems with user priv.  If you plug in a USB 
drive or mount a filesystem using ssh or the like it uses fuse.  I'd 
wager you're running gnome.  Gnome does some clever things to allow you 
to automount devices.
