[olug] NIC problem

Is the version of SUSE SLE 11?  I've noticed that the default  
behavior, for starting a network service, has changed.  An arping is  
sent to ensure the IP is unique.  Here's the command it uses:

arping -c 1 -I eth4 -D 192.168.0.1

(Check the help option for the proper capitalization of those  
options.  I took that from handwritten notes.)

Does 'ip a l' or 'ifconfig -a' show that address in use?

As you've found out, YaST and networking don't get along.  That's the  
one thing I never use to configure network devices.  There's too much  
"black magic".

I currently have a case open with Novell on the new arping issue,  
because it breaks AutoYaST installs on IBM servers with remote  
management devices installed.  Is that the type of server you're  
working with?
