I know that it is a 15.4" one BUT it will do the 8GB AND you could hookup an external 22" for a lot more screen space and STILL have money in your pocket!  8)

I'm finally ready to replace my aging P4-3GHz laptop.  I know that any
mid-level CPU and graphics card will be much faster than my current system,
so my only hard requirements are:
 * 17" LCD with 1920x1200 resolution
 * Support for more than 4GB RAM (I'll start with 4 and move up from there)
 * (And of course Linux compatibility!)

I do a lot of VMWare work -- it's not uncommon to need 2-3 server instances
(Windows and Linux) running at once, so the ability to go to 6 or 8GB of RAM
when prices fall further is a must.  (My current desktop has 4GB and it
chugs with some of my VMWare test scenarios.)

I've been looking through NewEgg and the only options there are some Asus
laptops (ASUS G71G-Q2 or G71G-A2 - both around $2200).  I see that the
Lenovo W700 meets my requirements but it's quite a bit more expensive
(around $3000).

Anyone have any current favorite sites and/or brands they want to share?
I'm even willing to look into the refurbished lists as long as I can get a
decent warranty.
