i tried putting some BestBuy soundcards in a HPDL380 G4 in a server
room with several other machines, but the speakers are only giving me
noise. The HPDL380g4 has pci-x slots, but it was physically
compatible with this particular dual (3.3v and 5.5v) voltage pci card.
That surprised me a little because i have several pci cards that are
not physically compatible. i would probably prefer an external USB
device. Doesn't have to be fancy. Prefer cheap and simple. Well
supported in Linux and pci-x is much more important than anything
else.
i need it to take input from a radio receiver or from ogg files on
the network and then output to an amplifier which powers speakers
throughout the office. Stereo is more than good enough. Don't need
4.1 or 5.1 or 7.1 because the stereo channels go through a Y to become
mono before going to the amplifier.
mpd = Media Player Daemon
mpd / icecast / ampache controlled by various clients such as web /
mpc / ncmpd.
This storm is going to get mighty boring without some interesting
podcasts to listen to. Anybody have a card to sell cheap? recommend?
