[olug] Information Request - Data Recovery

Invest in R-Linux for data recovery; I recently recovered the data from a "mostly dead" Mac OSX system with it. It can recover entire directories from any common file system. Only runs in Windows, from what I've seen so far.
There are a LOT of free tools for undeleting/unerasing individual files, as well. One that I carry for Windows OS is just called Restoration for NTFS/FAT32.
The Ultimate Boot CD also has entire partition recovery tools, and is worth checking out for almost anyone who's dealt with an "accidentally formatted" or failing hard drive.
I ran the Harry Potter books through a spell checker; none of those spells should work.

I've had brief dealings with TLC Technology, they are located here in
Omaha. They will evaluate the drive for free, and only charge if they
can successfully recover the data. They don't take the drive apart
(you're looking at $3K-$25K for that kind of service, and you won't find
it around here), but they say if the drive will post they can usually
recover data. www.tlctechnology.com, 402-397-7533
I've also used Restorer Pro 2000 with good results:
http://www.restorer2000.com, although it doesn't look like it can read
any Linux file systems.
