Some Hints:
1.) strip off 2" even though you will only use 1/2". Much easier to grab
with big thumbs.
2.) Bend the 2" back and forth several times, this will heat up the copper
and make it more malleable so that it can be placed in T568b position - the
only virtuous Cat5 standard for ethernet. Starting with the blue pair
first, then green and work your way out.
3.) HardPart: there are two sides to a single male connector, but there can
only be one correct pattern of wires because it is 3d. The best way to look
at the cable is with the end of the RJ-45 away from you and the clicker/tab
down. The conductors ON BOTH ENDS should be in this order from left to
right for T568b (yes, you can make your own standard as long as both ends
are the same, but don't):
white/orange
orange/white
white/green
blue/white
white/blue
green/white
white/brown
brown/white
4.) Use female RJ-45 ports whenever you can because they much easier and
quicker.
