Exactly.
Note that, in the failed drive case, things are *not* graceful. If you
want graceful, use a hardware RAID controller.
BTW make sure you test a drive failure with your distribution! Not all
installers set up grub properly to handle a mirrored /boot (or wherever
your kernel is).
