Don't take this the wrong way, but you may want to read this:

There are supposed problems with cdrecord and 2.5+ kernels but I've
never experienced anything through 3 different systems and countless
distributions... It does work, don't interpret 'not supported' for
not working...
What kind of hardware do you have? What are the errors you are
getting? It seems like you said you're getting errors retrieving
cdrecord from the apt repository, which is a whole different problem
than cdrecord not functioning on a 2.5+ kernel...

It seems to be in their repository, if its not installing you have
package manager issues.
