Ended up needing a new motherboard.  A big THANKS to
Craig Wolf for his expert help.  Got the board in and
installed even though I had to switch cases (old one
wasn't big enough).  Using a ABIT KW7 Socket A
motherboard with a Via 1.4 GHz processor.  I have
Ubuntu 5.10 up and running EXCEPT I don't have the
network configured or running....help appreciated for
this.

Installing Ubuntu and Kubuntu were pains due to a GRUB
Error 18 which I solved via partitioning the first
hard drive.
(Hey you learn)

I use Cox if that helps any (DHCP didn't work right
off the bat).


The screen resolution problem was fixed when I
installed the new motherboard.  Thanks to all who gave
input/advice.
