Not a problem...
Yes the tables should have been installed with the install.php script.
Try running the install.php script again, When you do this is where it
should ask you for, the new sugar database name the userid and password...it
should also ask if you want to install the test data.

Sorry for confusion.
problem exists on Step 1 screen,
Component ----------- Status
MySQL Database Not Available
(next -- unavailable to proceed. All I can do is Back, or Re-check)
Yes, I can mysql --user=sugarcrm --password=$password mysql
Is there a special install step for creating mysql tables?? Again ASSuMEd
that was part of install.php script. I don't have any. I always wondered if
that was an issue, but......

No you don't need to grant $user(s)@fdqn, as long as the mysql database and
sugarcrm are on the same machine.
Can you log into mysql as the sugarcrm user? If so then Im not sure what
the issue is...
Have you ran through the install.php script? You will need to do this to
connect to the database as the sugarcrm user.

Oh, for pity sake!!!
have granted all to {admin;apache;root;sugarcrm;$myself at localhost}
identified by $password with grant option.
STILL, check says mysql "Not Available"
next suggestion? Sorry for the protracted issue...maybe we could blame this
on a fellow OLUGer that gave me a short tour at InfoTec. Lord forbid, I may
have to become a Powerbook user.....
Do I need to try and grant to $user(s)@fdqn??
This is just nuts.

Yes you need to add the sugarcrm at localhost(assuming mysql and sugarcrm on
same box) user to the users table in mysql database, yes grant all.
Then the install.php should continue at creating the tables and importing
sample data if you want it to.

sustained thickness here, do I add sugarcrm user to users table of mysql,
grant all??
have no tables even created, no .sql to feed to mysql. ASSuMEd it would be
created by install.php??
-or-
do I need to grant perms to apache (owner of httpd)
N
Reading install tips for Windows, as that's only reference material I've run
across so far.....

You need to grant permissions to the sugarcrm user whatever you set that
up to be, ie... sugarsrm at localhost
Trent
BTW, I have used sugarcrm and it's a pretty nice CRM...

attempting to install sugarcrm.
dropped into docroot/sugarcrm
service httpd restart -- OK
servcie mysqld start -- OK
opened tcp port 3306 on firewall, can telnet -- OK
accessed via localhost:/sugarcrm
run install.php
Test shows mysqld not available.
Any suggestions. NO docs that I've found. huh!!?!
Feel like I'm being lazy asking, but brain cramp or something.....
