CVS or some other version control system (Subversion comes to mind) that
would allow you to check all your config files in and perform
diffs/merges.
...and a personal log file.
I haven't done the CVS thing but I do maintain a personal log of any
significant changes I make to my system. The CVS approach is one I've
seen described online and the people who have done it, seemed to like it
a lot. I might try it in the future.
