Hi All,
Yesterday at the installfest I mentioned several links
which some people wanted so here is the list, in
absolutely no particular order.
Smart Boot Manager: http://btmgr.sourceforge.net/
The tool to use for machines that can't boot from cd
for installs. You don't need to cut x boot disks just
use this instead.
Damn Small Linux: http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/
A version of Knoppix/Debian which is small enough to
fit onto a Bootable Business Card. Also works quite
well for recycling old pcs.
Flonix:
A relative of Damn Small Linux. Has two interesting
features. One it can run from a USB device pretty
well. It also supports net installs of almost all
applications so you can dynamically download install
apps onto a machine booted from CD.
MDADM:
http://linux.oreillynet.com/pub/a/linux/2002/12/05/RAID.html
A better tool for dealing with linux software RAID
devices. Link above is to an oreillynet article which
goes into some detail about it.
Linux on Laptops: http://www.linux-laptop.net/
The site with a lot of information about running linux
on laptops. Whenever I'm looking for a laptop this is
the first site I hit to see how much work linux is
going to take on it.
Simply Linux: http://jetblackz.nabaza.org/
A site with a lot of good information on configuring
your distro and doing things like installing Firebird,
changing color depths and mouse sensitity in Knoppix
and the like.
If I forgot anything I mentioned please let me know.
Otherwise congrats to Team OLUG on a very good
installfest.
Regards,
Aaron
