I have a ham license, and have been interested in this in the past, but haven't really had the time or money to pursue any of it.
So I can't really add anything or help (partly because I am in Sioux City), but I thought I would let you know there is another ham out here who is interested in this stuff.
What I would like to do here in Sioux City eventually is have some kind of grass roots city-wide LAN, very similar to what was just mentioned in another thread on this list for the Omaha area. But this would be built on 802.11x stuff, no ham gear. However I've thought about trying to get the hams involved, maybe with help with antennas and/or tower space.
