[olug] Vendor support

I am currently only running high end IDE servers.
They have enough power for my current environment.
I used to use SCSI, but find IDE fast enough and get bigger drives for the
cost of a fast small SCSI system.
I am looking to spend less than 2-3 G on a system.
I also run RAID on IDE.
I did run RAID on SCSI with software.
That way I could break and recreate the mirror and run backups in the
background with a live database on the primary drive.
It was a 7 x 24 site.
I do not have a need for gigabit Ethernet yet.
I run 10/100 on systems and 1 G on fiber.
Are you running gigabit over copper or fiber?

Why yes it is ;-) regarding prices - you get what you pay for, an example
system I recently purchased:
X335 ( 1U chasis )
2 x Xeon 2.4Ghz procs
2Gb Ram
2 18Gb Ultra320 Scsi hot swap drives
3 yr 9/5 4hr onsite service
all for under 5k
for the perks in the X series
- built in KVM
- 2 x onboard gigabit ethernet
- built in ultra320 raid controller
I think the price is right on IMHO.
X335 configurator:
http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=-
840&storeId=1&categoryId=2574822&langId=-1&dualCurrId=73
click "customize" to get a better idea on prices.
