[olug] cvs error

a weird CVS error comes up on my home machine when I try to commit
changes:

mikeh at gideon:pts/0:19 files 87Kb -> cvs commit
cvs commit: Examining .
cvs [commit aborted]: Failed to create temporary file: Permission denied


But I can write to /tmp (via touch) and I have write permission to
$CVSROOT (I've used it before).

I did upgrade my cvs because of the security alert a few days ago:

any ideas?
