I use cox and have no problems with port 22. The only two services I've had
trouble with in the past are http and ftp, I think cox was doing something
to 80 and 20...

I don't use Cox, so I can't say, but you might try enabling the verbose
logging in SSH/d and see what the logs have to say, if anything.
