It depends on your needs. ProFPTD is what I use as it has the 
functionality I require (LDAP user and group lookups, virtual domains, 
etc).  OTOH, it's not exactly a simple beast to configure ;)

VSFTPD is popular, and is quite simple to configure.  NcFTPd is another.

I say go with ProFTPd.
