Can you go Ctl-Alt-F1 ... F6 and get to the text screens? Or at the
boot: prompt, type "linux 3" to start at runlevel 3, at least where you
can do some troubleshooting.

Subject: [olug] SuSE 9.0 problems w/X freezing
Just completed a network install of SuSE 9.0 which I thought went
without a
hitch, but I can barely use X as it freezes within minutes each time I
start it
up.
I used SuSE 8.2 on the same machine and had basically no probs with my
video
hardware setup (NVidia TNT2 32mb) w/3D acceleration. Now I can't even
get Sax2
to stay up long enough (before X freezes) to try some different
settings, and I
don't know much about editing the XFConfig file except that it seams I
need to
run SuSEconfig after making any changes.
Without ssh'ing into the box to kill X, I'm willing to bet that the
kernel is
still purring along in the background because I did have one 3D
accelerated
game (Marble Blast) that would bring X (under 8.2) to its knees. I
could kill
X after ssh'ing in, but I couldn't get my screen back. <reboot>
I did have a peek at /var/log/XFree86.0.log, but I can't see any errors
logged
(not sure exactly what to look for all the same).
Any suggestions?
Thanks for reading my garble!
