Although if you start with a stage3 install it really doesn't take that 
long.  Stage 3 uses pre-build versions of X, Gnome/KDE, mozilla and a 
lot others.

Just a thought.  Although I didn't vote because I'd vote Gentoo and I 
tend to agree that it isn't a particularly newbie friendly or time 
friendly install.
