[olug] Cacheing server

What software would I use as the cacheing software on a Linux box?  Is
there anything other than Squid that would work?  Is Squid the best
option.  I plan to use Red Hat but I want to try using Gentoo first to
see if I can get it to load on the server.  We have 3 high schools that
this will go into to help alleviate some of the traffic.  Thanx
