[olug] Hardware Problems

Hi all,

I've got this used Compaq Deskpro since January.  I loaded Linux on it 
and I've been reasonably happy playing around with it.  Today the 
machine froze and I attempted to reboot. I get a message at bootup 
saying Disk Error 1790 disk 0 or some such message. It won't go any 
further than that. I'm thinking this is bad news, right? Is the problem 
with the disk or the controller? How would I find out for sure?
