All of the evening Metro programming classes I have taken have been taught by part time instructors that program for a living. I have been able to learn quit a bit there. I didn't finish my degree however. Real world experience has been the key for me. Do what ever you have to to get the one to two years experience on the resuem and the rest will fall into place. A degree will help with bigger companies and highly advertised positions. Seems they are only pulling people with CS degress in HR. Taht should change as the market settles down. So to be ultra competeetive you would have a CS degree and certifications in all relevant technologies and one to two year real world experience. Anyway I have never seen an age issue. Starting salaries are usually pretty modest though. The market is tight now. That being said if you can get an internship somewhere and can do the job you most likely will be given a full time offer.
