Here is a great page on the history of Unix/Linux, visually depicted that is: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/levenez/unix/
This first one is neat to get an idea and timeline on how things came about.
Here is great page on Linux commands in alphabetical order. Have used this many times, not all inclusive though: http://www.onlamp.com/Linux/cmd/
There is also a handout, One page handout on Linux commands I think, that someone brought to the last Installfest that was AWESOME. Can't find my link to it though. Must be at home.
Try'n to be helpful.

Well-- I'm thinking something along the lines of:
1- Someone to explain the history of UNIX and Linux, about the philosophy
behind their beginnings-- perhaps a little background on Stallman (it's
pretty interesting stuff).
2- Someone to explain basic UNIX commands, how to use term. windows, etc.
A little 10 page hand-out would be nice on this. (This is all pretty
intimidating to the newbie, who is probably coming from Windows)
3- Someone to explain the software download system, and hints for using
RedCarpet, FreshMeat, Ximian, all that cool stuff.
And-- I'm sure that much, much more could be covered, but these are the
topics I could come up with off the top of my head. It would be nice if
there were 3 or 4 speakers within a 2 hour class, to kind of break up the
monotony.
Perhaps this is the general idea of the "Install Fests", I do not know.
(If so, great! I hope to be there at the next one in July.) Or perhaps we
could do this kind of class on the same day/evening of the Install Fest. As
I say, I'm clueless-- just looking at this from a beginner's standpoint.
Thanks,
Tanya
