For some voting is extreme. Participation in life is extreme. Purchasing DVDs is extreme. Listening to MP3s is extreme. etc etc etc

>Well I can respect your enthusiasm but that is a little extreme for me. My contention is simple I don't beleive that our current legislators care at all about the constitution they swore to defend. I don't care if a company is capitalistic. I someday want to own a successful company. I really enjoyed Spiderman even though I fed Sony movies money to file lawsuits with. My question is why do we elect these polititions and never report on there actions. When a bill is proposed almost any citizen can tell you there stance on it but how many make sure there representative agrees with them? Trusting someone because they are well spoken and look nice seems flawed. The frivilous lawsuits wouldn't happen if the legislature and courts upheald our constitutional rights. Oddly enough in every case these attempts at controling or banning content have failed misserably and helped define fair use. The places where I am most worried are not the blatant "Code is not text", because I expect higher courts to continue to rule with the constitution, but the frivilous patents and follow on suits and the misunderstanding of copyright intent. Snow White should be public domain. There really isn't any reason it shouldn't be. No one should be awarded a patnet for swinging sideways on a swing or for a hyperlink. Software patents in general are almost all frivilous. I could understand it if it was a part of a larger system and truely represented something new. Anyway I enjoy movies and I buy DVD's. I want to play back the DVD on my computer, even in linux, and take screenshots. I don't listen to my CD's directly anymore because having a complete MP3 collection is much more conveinent. I laugh every time I log into gnutella and see all the activity there. I wonder why the music industry tries. They can't get rid of ftp, gnutella, http, or any other transfer protocol. I think every day that I would like to buy some new music. Funny thing is the only album to catch my attention in the last year was a street band playing in Omaha. So my wife and I bought a CD from them. I beleive content is sorly lacking in the music industry. My .02 for today.
