Save yourself some time one day and make a conversion cable.  It's simply a short piece of cat5 which has male RJ45 on
one end and female on the other.  Wire it as a crossover and it will make a patch cable a crossover or a crossover a
patch cable.  It's VERY handy to keep with your laptop.
