[olug] hostname vs netbiosname

The following is working using 273 but I want to use bang as the
hostname instead of 273.
This morning I had my hostname set as bang. The NT4 server would not
let me login for sharing the directories using:
smbmount //nt_le/ericp$ /mnt/sambatest -o username=ericp
netbiosname=273
It started working when I changed the hostname to 273 and then I didn't
need to specify the netbiosname.
Unfortuneately this naming of 273 is annoying and confusing. When
talking to the other engineers the naming convention of bang, etc is
easier than 273, 257, etc.. I want my hostname back.
The sysadmin here says that the logins are restricted based on the name
of the computer in windows. I guess this means hostname. In linux
though I would think I would be able to specify netbiosname instead of
smbmount automaticallys sending my hostname.
How can I overcome this?
Eric
