[olug] rpm -bb option

Has anyone every built a binary rpm package to install?  I found a site that has all of the drivers for the different network cards.  They're all bundled together in a rpm package.  The instructions say to use rpm -bb to build a binary of the rpm, but I get an error message that says "This does not appear to be an specfile".  Inside the rpm are two files.  One is the spec file, while the other is a .gz file.
