[olug] eth0 again

I've had some problems with the RealTek-based cards not giving quite the
throughput that they should.  A few too many errors when you start the use
the network extensively, and the like.  Never could clear those up.  Had a
lot of luck with Linksys cards - not as cheap as the realteks (paid about
$29 for mine), and under Mandrake 7.0 I had to mess with an updated Tulip
driver (it uses a DEC chipset? I guess...).  Under Mandrake 8 I haven't had
any problems.

I second this.  look for the rtl or realtek chipsets.  they are easy as pie
to setup but get a bad name.  Don't really know why think it is cause they
have performance issues?  but mine all worked painles sunder linux and I
never paid more than 15.00
