Well, disconnecting the 
old" hard drive had no effect. I put my HP CD-R/W into the system and tried
to load from that also. It went slightly better but then had lots of errors
while trying to load packages. If I press Ctrl-Alt-F4 I see a whole string
of failed to init errors. It's really frustrating, I'm the one that keeps
telling people how easy Linux is to install now.
