Perhaps . . . I just tried to compile Samaba for encrypted passwords (on
Solaris), and it gave me an error. I read in the Samba docs that I needed
SSL (which was fine, because I wanted scp, ssh, etc. on that box anyway),
so I installed OpenSSL, and then re-tried compiling Samba and it worked.
My guess is the RedHat rpm for Samba either requires SSL or has it
statically linked.
