Grrrrrrr I just started getting into linux and configuring it the way I
want and now I hit another snag :) I ctrl+alt+backspaced to shut down x
windows last night, disconnected from the net and went to bed then this
morning I got up and tried to startx and got this message.....
Authentication failed - cannot start X server.
Perhaps you do not have console ownership?
as root x starts though ok?I looked in /etc/X11 and /usr/X11R6/bin at
the appropiate files ans the X sym link and all looked ok.Any other
idea?
Also after all else failed I tried a reboot to see if that would
help.(did I just admit that?!..lol) and this scrolled by on bootup...

I have nfs and portmap set to off at bootup so I'm wondering if this has
something to do with someone persistantly trying to connect to my port
25 thursday for about 4 hours.my logcheck always said connection refused
so I assumed he never got in.Can anyone tell me how to correct these
error messages?I did find an executabled called inn-something in my
cron.hourly directory and I moved it to my home directory for now.I
can't recall the executables full name until I boot back into linux and
look it up.
Thank you,Gary Martin
