I'd like to throw my 2 cents in here.  First, the command

xhost local:username

is probably better than the other suggestions you've gotten.  This
command allows the specific user specified by "username" access to the X
server.  Second, the details of how to use xhost are described in the
man page.  (Although I admit that the current man page is less
informative than previous versions seemed to be.)
