[olug] Cox Email Outage

Why would you consider free Gmail so much better than Cox mail?

If you are likely to change ISP's every few years, then sure, look into non ISP based email system. I had my @home.com account then replaced by @cox.net account since they brought cable modem service to Omaha. This recent outage is the only time I've been without email for more than a few hours, and even that is extremely rare.

Personally I don't trust Gmail to not scan through my mail to assist them in targeting me with more advertising. Not that cox can't do the same, I just feel better about them (yeah it's irrational)

As for the injection. I'm pretty sure I saw the injection on a non webmail page and it really freaked me out. I know they can/could do that any time they want, but it still really bothers me that they did it.
Instead they should have put a scroll bar on their cable stream and perhaps used an automated service to call all customers and inform them of the outage.

Its strange, I do not use Cox email, and did not receive any injections. I
figured my buddy was feeding me a line. I would never seriously use Cox as
my primary email.
