I have the original Moto Droid and it is pretty easy to gain root
access these days.  Once you get root, you can download WifiTether
which allows you to tether for free (e.g. act as a mobile Wifi
hotspot).  Sssssh. Just don't tell VZ your doing it and I don't see
how they could actually catch you.  My wife has has some issues with
pre-owned Droids though, so you may opt for a brand new Droid2.
