I've never purchased a System76 system, but I've heard second-hand comments
on the good quality of their post-sale service.

If you're looking to buy local, burn a Live CD/DVD of the distro you plan to
use, then go to the store and ask a sales associate if they have any
objection to letting you test boot the system.

On new hardware, major things such as video, NIC, and WiFi will pretty much
be supported out of the box.  My 1 year old HP HDX18 had a new sound card in
it that wasn't supported by Linux until late last fall, a TV tuner that is
supported, and the integrated fingerprint reader isn't supported at all.
