That's kinda what I'd found, too.

One noteworthy advantage for FreeNAS is that it supports ZFS, while
the licensing verbage prevents ZFS support from being integrated
into the Linux kernel.  FreeNAS is FreeBSD, while OpenFiler is Linux.
